Turning Into a Marshmallow
I'm turning into a marshmallow, not because of cookies (though that's true too) but from my iPod playlists. I like to think I'm hardcore. I can remember a time when there was nothing but Iggy Pop, Franz Ferdinand, and The White Stripes coming from my cd player, but since I got my iPod I've totally turned soft.

Everywhere I look on-line, bloggers are obsessed with their iPod playlists. I think it's because we think our playlists somehow define us. After looking at my top 10 played songs, I hope that's not true, otherwise I am one big ball of fluffy cheese. So, here it is, my unaltered top 10 played songs from my 25 most played playlist. (This is a list generated by the iPod.)
Jack Johnson- With My Own Two Hands
Martha Wainwright- Question of Etiquette
Puddle of Mudd- She Hate Me (one hardcore song)
Natalie Merchant- Will the Circle be Unbroken
James Blunt- You're Beautiful
Taco- Putting on the Ritz
Damien Rice- The Blower's Daughter
Joan Armatrading- The Weakness in Me
Jewel- Angel Standing By
Antony and the Johnsons- For Today I am a Boy
On another note...
My car totally died and I'm totally stranded. Dad offered to bring me his spare truck to drive while it gets worked on. Let me show you dad's spare truck that he bought with his quarters.
I am going to go see Pirates 2 tonight. Someone's picking my ass up, of course. I'll get to meet a couple of new people who happen to live in my apartment complex. Maybe they'll be going to the grocery store tomorrow.

iPod -- I don't have one. I am stuck in a time bubble -- or loop -- it's the 60s and 70s. I still dig my vinyl. Yay.
I think you're right though -- all the culture that we surround ourselves with [tv shows, websites, books, iPod playlists, clothes brands....] all help us [and others] to define ourselves and what kind of likeminded 'group' we pertain to. Interesting....
Hey -- that's a f**king gorgeous car by the way! Whoa. It may not start anymore, but it sure looks cracking, dear! Hope you manage to get it back to life soon.
Have fun tonight at the cinema :-D
By the way, when you say you're turning into a marshmallow -- do you mean something along the lines of the marshmallow man from Ghostbusters?
haha. i still have a record player as well, and a whopping vinyl collection. it's true we define ourselves in strange ways. it's interesting to see the people who i recieve friend requests on myspace just because of something or someone they like in my profile.
that truck is hideous. no need to be kind. i passed on the offer. i'll be bumming rides for the week. my car should be in ship shape by thursday...my birthday :).
no, not the marshmallow man from ghostbusters. that's a great film though.
I just got an ipod and I adore it. I am currently going through my CD's to pick out only the primo songs - a dream I've had since I was a child.
My CD's are in alphabetical order, and I'm on the C's. I'm going to be here for a while.
I think your list is fine. You can't go wrong with a little Taco - Puttin on the Ritz.
brooke- isn't making a playlist like one of those things like flying? you always wanted to do it, but never thought you would. i was obsessed with media as a kid too. if you'd have told me i would be watching movies on something that small, i would have fainted dead in my tracks. cogratulations, btw on your ipod. i know you wanted one.
coolcat- thanks ;) i love that version. i think i even like it better than the judy garland. shameful, i know.
I wasn't joking about your truck. I think it's pretty nifty.
Oh wow that truck would have fit right in where I spent my Saturday night.
Damn town full of local inbreeds, hilarious watching them jump from one relative to the next.
I love Nathalie Merchant. She's one of my favorite female singers. I saw her 3 times live.
btw great FORD pic!
my top three songs: blazing arrow by blackalicious; come sail away by styx; if drinkin don't kill me, her memory will by george jones.
lex- yep, sounds like my family.
frog- thanks :). we dig a lot of the same tunes.
jiggs- you are SO hardcore.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY :-D
happy birthday!!! is it your birthday?
thank you, thank you. it is my birthday! :)
I have the same exact iSkin, which means we both rock. Does yours glow in the dark?
Spinning "Gril". I like it. Is that like "why u all up in mah gril"?
of course we both rock! you rock a little more than me. i think you're uber cool.
i actaully got that skin for a dollar. it doesn't glow in the dark. i fucking wish it did though.
Thank you!

Jiggs, you're such a copycat!! ;-P
i would just like to say one thing. those bands you listed are not hardcore.
but yeah i'd be obsessed with my ipod if i had one.not because of the songs, but because i finally figured out how to use it!
Amera, I too was surprised when I read the description 'hardcore' in connection with those bands -- but I guess we all have different perceptions of how we classify bands. In my view bands suchs as The Jesus Lizard, Helmet...are hardcore. But that's just my understanding of the term 'hardcore' I guess....
yes, yes. i see what you guys are saying, but i guess i should've clarified that, for ME they are hardcore. i'm not very into the real "hardcore" at all. also, they are much more "hardcore" than jack johnson. so...by comparison.
:)
I see your point, Poo -- thanks for elaborating :-)
Again: different people, different perceptions. That's what makes life interesting :-D
well, that and because i have a bad habit of over/misusing the word "hardcore". that is because i'm a dork. ;)
let me know when you add some deftones to that playlist.
New post please.
